I'll participate with "Rocket launch"...and will probably, as with most of my pictures, hear some remark about lack of realism  :P

Visit my Warsaw, Poland MD.

Lerist's picture looks cool, but it misses some charm. Warszawa's picture on the other hand has the thing that makes the picture looking brilliant. So my vote goes to Warszawa.

Warszawa - 1
Lerist - 0

My vote goes to lerist, becuase I like rocket launches, and the high tech industry goes well with it.

Lerist, I would like to encourage comments.  This way the SC4 Picture Contest may get better and better.
Although negative comments without good reasons and ideas on how it could be better are not welcome here at all.

With that said......
lerist , I like your use of the highways.  How would that many Sims get to all those jobs otherwise?  And the work you must have put in to get all that dirty industrial to grow is incredible and that rocket is very nice touch.
Warszawa, I like your picture as well.  But I wish you had used several different types and colours of trees.  It's hard to distinguish whether those are trees or a blacked out area.  I also like the green border add the green hue to the pic.

I think I will vote for lerist.

Warszawa - 1
lerist - 2

And I'll bring the pics over.

:)

The industrial area looks very monotonous, and I suppose that's what lerist is aiming for!
That Chinese rocket launch adds to the grimy effect of the area, where I wouldn't want to work... ::)
I'd take the highway out of there! :D

Warszawa's picture has an impression of sunrise over it, giving it a warm feeling, even if it's a skyscraper district.
Thus, I would rather set my foot in that dark park and wait for the sunrise.
However, I have a personal feeling for the rocket launch... reasons untold... $%#Ninj2

Long story short, a vote for lerist :)

3-1 in favour of lerist

Fine entries from both contestants again

I think lerist's Rocket Launch is a great example of creating a single, defined point of interest. At first glance, it might not seem to be a great picture, but its strength lies in the repetitive industrial area punctuated by this monumental rocket launch and the pad that sits upon a "patch" of grass. Cropping out the small reservoir on the bottom left would probably make the focus even stronger.

warszawa's Panorama of Downtown Seoul shows a busy metropolis with a great selection of buildings and landmarks, filtering it with a warmer tone helps to give it a different atmosphere but (sorry to repeat this again) the contrast is set too high - thus the green space (a welcomed addition in any city, especially in real life) loses its prominence and detail. It becomes this black growth that is spread across the city, which sets it at odds with the aforementioned atmosphere.

On these points, my vote goes to lerist

lerist 5
warszawa 1

Edit: readjusted score after a post came in while I was typing :P

First: Thanks to all who voted for me!

And thanks for warszawa, tcx and Tarkus for three exciting and tight rounds!

Robin (rooker1) just confirmed that this was my 10th entry in the HoF - and the first two-digit entry at all which makes me rather proud ...  &dance
Yes, very true.  Bernhard is in the lead with ten pics in the HoF, followed by some other great contenders. Congrats my friendRobin
Now for the actual round:

lerist: well, not realistic, thats true, but I like the composition of the pic. I think the same as etherian.
Warszawa: Great pic, and even though shadows on trees can be that dark under certain circumstances IRL it is a bit too much photoshoppping for my taste

That's why I go for lerist:

lerist 6
warszawa 1

Bernhard

i have to vote lerist for the artistic composition, rule of thirds followed perfectly....

7-4
NAM + CAM + RAM + SAM, that's how I roll....

Q-Tips

I give my vote to Lerist.

Lerist - 8
warszawa - 4

threestooges

I'm not exactly sure what the rule of thirds is, but there is something artistic in the design of the are industrial area. I also like that, as far as I can tell, all of those industrial jobs are satisifed, and thus good work on the infrastructure. I like the dense trees of warszawa's pic, but they are a bit obscure. A little more definition to their shape would help, even if it is only at sunrise/set. It's a difficult choice, but my vote will go to warszawa.

lerist: 8
warszawa: 5

I would also like to echo Robin's (rooker's) thought about the comments in this thread. The competition is great, but it is the ability to help improve the creative process by seeing what others do, and getting different perspectives on your work that allows a person to explore areas they might not have considered before. Excellent work.

Tarkus

lerist's pic reminds me a lot of Russell's MD Bliss, which I rather enjoyed.  However, I'm drawn toward warszawa's more, so he gets my vote this time.  While the trees are a bit dark, that is somewhat characteristic of shadows over forestlands in RL, and I like the contrast between the high-rises and the forested area.

lerist-8
warszawa-6

And congrats to Nardo on winning a close round, and on getting into the Hall of Fame.  Much deserved.

Great comments from people in this round - makes it more interesting (IMHO).

If I'm totally honest, I think that with these two pics there are probably more reasons why I don't like them, which is personal taste thing.

Lerist's pic - I agree withhis sentiments that why should every picture be "realistic".  Sure those parallel highways are probably not "realistic" but in the confines of SC4 they are probably a very efficient use of transport networks.  The sheer repetition of the industrial buildings does not make for an interesting pic where you can spot new things each time you look.....BUT it does have something about it that draws the eye.  The endless sea of blue grey has a strangely calming effect.

Warszawa's pic - The actual city building is very good.  Nice clusters of certain buildings.  The only buildings I don't like are the two roundish ones just to the right of centre at the top.  I think just one would have looked better.  For such a small pic it actually has a lot in it and a lot going on.  BUT the photoshopping kills it for me and the trees are just too dark for me.  At first I didn't realise they were trees.

So on balance, the strangely calming effect of lerist's industrial repetition does it for me and gets my vote.

Lerist  9-6  Warszawa

Kitsune

I just plain like the industrial area, very repetitive but in a good way, reminds me of a Dystopia actually.

So, its 10-6 for Lerist, we need a new challenger.
