I love that fact that your cities are fully funtional while maintaining the degree of detail that you do. REALLY looking forward to see that city up close.

Alek King of SC4

Hello SC4D faithfull, I am finally going to bring it with a real update.  I have been playing and have started a new highyl planned concept region.  The concept an all rail commuter city.  Obviously many sims will still drive to the train stations, schools, ect but the point being all jobs in the CBD will be accesible only via rail.

Neighborhoods will be segregated so that the sims living there will have to commute through neighborhood specific stations.  I have also tried to offset all stations from the main rail lines.  This is crucial as many lines have over 40,000 just in through traffic which would instantly overload all stations.

I have used a med tile for the downtown tile surrounded by small tiles.  This is done to maximize the amount of neighbor connections without ahving more than one connection per tile and screwing up demand. Also thanks to the NAM sims from thee tiles over will commute via train to the CBD, with not a single no job zot in the region.

Final issue is that i am still looking for a way to increase station capacity. I am using a massive terminal station (it is huge) but i am still puching it over 400% of capacity :(

Trying to blend from downtown-grid urban-suburban sprawl-rural

traffic map is rather bland, but does show rail nicely.

station congestion^

i ended up adding two more lines branching to the south from when this was taken^

i thought this was cool a neighboring small tile with one offset station that for some reason
over half sims walk to, with everyone of course commuting to neighboring downtown

another similar case

a very chicago style suburb, with classic grid and commercial strip near rail station

That's a major and absolutely incredible update, Alek.  Figured you were up to something good while you've by hanging back.  The concept is what makes great pics compelling ones (even the mirror-image one, LOL).  It's hard to imagine the time, but even more, the thought that must have gone into this.

It's great to have you around 'thinking outside the box' for all the rest of us- I can't wait to see what's next.

Very nice concept, allthough so many sunken railways looks "scary"  ;D

Your work has given me more energy to build my own region. And excellent choice of custom content, espically tonkso and glenni, two of the best active batters at the moment.

thundercrack83

Wow! Unbelievable, Alek! How do you get so many people to use your mass transit like that? 100,000 using the trains and 50,000 on the subways? That's insane! What's your population up to?

kwakelaar

Don't think I have ever seen traffic views quite like that

Truly remarkable. The traffic networks are amazing. I can only echo what the others said. The tile where the sims mostly walk is something I have never seen before  $%Grinno$%

rooker1

Amazing.  An idea like that some would say it's impossible.  But not for you.  I have a hard time getting my sims to even use the rail.  The traffic views are incredible, I just can't believe you got that many sims to ride the rail.  And the sims that walk to the station from so far is very strange.
Outstanding concept.

Amazing! Your concepts continue to blow me away. I have a question...what station are you using in this photo? I'd like to use it myself.

As for your station capacity problem, have you thought about re-building the entire system and routing half of the commuters into another station, or have each line terminate around a "central core?" London has numerous termini, as does Paris. Just an idea.

I'm looking forward to another update.

Thanks,
Kevin

The region looks great, AK! Can't wait to see more!

sebes

Fantistic start of the region, and magnificent traffic views Alek!

But: HOW on earth do you get them to walk such long distances? They walk like 1/2 of the tile !!
