The video looks great.  I don't remember all the cities, but there are a lot of familiar scenes in there.  I especially like the cities where you used canals and the NWM to create a really unique looking urban environment.

Nice video, CanyonJumper! It was really well done. And happy anniversary/birthday to Cascadia!

I hope Cascadia's second year is just as good, if not better (which I'm sure it will be), than the first. Can't wait for the next update!

PS. I'm still waiting for the prize of getting to name one of your towns for cracking your code... :P

Battlecat

Congratulations on one year of Cascadia!   &apls &apls

Your region has come a long way in the past year, looking forward to seeing what you have planned for the next year!

I hadn't read this MD for the longest time, and I regret not doing so.  Really, really spectacular work.

The update back a couple of pages had a few comments about your great work with a certain stream kit.  Which one is it?

'Tis the season! Yup, it's the winter solstice, when the Earth is furthest from the great star Sol, and also marking the beginning of the season of Winter. It's also 2 years until the end of the Mayan's Long Count Calendar, a 5125 year cycle that will restart (not end, contrary to popular belief) on Dec. 21, 2012. Last night also featured a total lunar eclipse visible in the Americas.

So, I'm updating on the Winter Solstice. Why? Because I have pictures that represent the season the solstice starts. Snow. Ice. Cold. Nego has named today's tile 'Crestwood', as a winner of my code contest in October. And here we go! All pics can be clicked for a larger size ;D

36-01: The Smythe Residence
Highway 3 (Crowsnest Highway) goes past the isolated, idyllic residence of John Smythe, a retired schoolteacher from Chilliwack. The Thompson River flows in the backyard. The air is crisp and cold after the night's snowstorm, which left the area blanketed in 10 centimetres of snow.

36-02: Lone Boater
John often takes boat rides on the Thompson River to take photographs of the beautiful scenery, and today is no exception. Many of these pictures end up framed on John's massive 'Photo Wall'.

36-03: Night Drive
It's an 80 kilometre journey to the nearest town for groceries, which often result in long night drives. Trip gets longer in the winter when John takes his time to avoid skidding on the black ice and potholes.

36-04: Crestwood Pond
The Crestwood Pond freezes over easily in early November, and becomes a popular skating rink for locals (all 6 of them :P). John often brings his grandkids here to skate until they drop. John also cuts down his own Christmas trees here, which is why some of the trees have disappeared. On Christmas morning, John and his family all gather at his house and celebrate Christmas together. John loves seeing the surprised looks, the screams of delight, and the flushed faces after an epic snowball fight.

This update is dedicated to my grandfather John, who passed away last Monday (Dec. 13). You could also say that it is dedicated to my other grandfather Vincent, who passed on March 10th. I will miss both terribly, because without them, Christmas will never be the same. Both of them had their unique qualities, but both of them loved their families, and remained close with their kids even after they left home. Both were fun to be around, and both were loved very much.

2010 was a year of change for me. I started Grade 11, began dating my second girlfriend (she's the best ever ;D), and I've become part of an amazing community (the SC4 community of course ;D). I've also had friends move away, computer glitches, and people I was close to pass. I hope 2011 is a better year for me.

Shout-outs to Chris (CSGdesign), for being the cruel dictator that you are (:P); Robin (rooker1), Casper (CasperVG), and the rest of the OSITM team for selecting Cascadia for July's OSITM; everyone who voted for me in the Picture Competition and Thematic Competition; and of course, everyone who's commented in Cascadia at least once: Cascadia would never have become what it is without your input.

                        Your friend,
                                       Jordan

Nice update and Merry Christmas to you! I especially like that bridge shot and am curious how you went about making it.... Rural bridges are generally narrower than normal so it fits in nicely. Sorry to hear about your loss. I hope 2011 brings you all the best and I'm glad for the good things that 2010 brought you!

io_bg

Fantastic winter update! The bridge indeed is a good idea. Happy holidays to you as well!
And sorry to hear of your losses ()sad()

Nice Winter pictures! :)

In the last time I tried them, too, but I do have too much summer trees ...  :D

I am really sorry to hear about your grandfather. He passed away one day before the birth of my second son.

You are lucky though as you had the chance to be so much time together with them. I was not, may father's father died when I was 5 years old and my mum's dad was killed as a soldier in Russia in WWII when she was five years old. Keep your grandfathers in your memory and tell your grandchildren about them, I guess they would appreciate this.

Take care, happy Christmas and a happy New Year!

Bernhard

Very nice winter pictures this time, Jordan !

I think I have to like the second picture the most ! The beauty of the trees covered in snow is just shocking, almost. I've never played around with winter trees, so I may have to try after seeing your inspiration !  ::)

Sorry to hear also about your grandfather, I never knew my real grandfathers so I hope you continue the fond memories of them for always !

Take care,
Ethan xx
