Oooh my, this thread just keeps getting better. I really like your idea for the town hall reward thingamajig.
Also, some of these Dutch treats are also widely available in Belgium (speculoos, oliebollen and, to a lesser extent, drop spring to mind).
That said, I hope you get better soon and I can't wait for the finished version of the city hall.

RIP Adrian (adroman), you were a great friend

I love how you combined the old and the new. Conserving the old, but still building the new for our modern needs is quite common today, so this is a real life looking lot. I love it and surely will use it.

Btw, I recommend to drink a lot of cold lemon juice for your laryngitis. It soothes the incomfortness and it reduces the timespan of this viral desease. ;) And don't eat/swallow something of a hard/dry texture, such as ryebread, biscuits and other dry aliments. That will worsen it, roughen up the esophage walls and vocal cords and giving more playground for the virus/bacteria.
I used to have this quite often in my fourties, now I don't anymore, maybe it was all the lemmon juice that killed it for good......lol
(surely not...just kidding)

Anyway, take care, you've got a week or two to create some nice stuff for SC4 now. ;)

I can second the cold lemon juice remedy.  You can also try mixing some lime juice, a little salt, and ice up into a slurry (kinda like an icee or slush) and slowly eat it.  Either of these will work.  The cold/ice reduces swelling (the cause of laryngitis) and the acidity of the juice does make it harder on the bacteria, and the salt will help sooth the soreness.  I use this remember every time I get a sore throat and it works every time.

I see nothing wrong with keeping it 6x8 myself, considering most city hall's in towns and cities tend to expand over time anyways and upgrade like these do(although my town is an exception considering where its located, there is no room to expand).

I love how you kept the original, and added to it for the later stages, that way it grows as the city does.

noahclem

The city hall lotting looks great  &apls  I agree that stage 3 doesn't seem quite ready though. Very interesting review of Dutch tourist items also! I shouldn't have read it while I was hungry  :D

I hope you feel better soon!

peter007

So I was looking for information about your illlness and I came to this

How about it? :P
Just joking. I hope you recover fast.
The work on the city hall is great.
When will they expand to a next phase? Is that when they reach a certain number of people?

I like stage 2 best... ;) as the addition works with the lot and the original building...

but not so much stage 3 as it doesn't fit so well, nor does it 'jive'  ??? as good its out of sorts withe whole  %wrd [stage 3] perhaps a different tower...

stage one is good, gardens typical of english/ dutch sensibility where a garden and a 'civic' building seem to grow together...

but change the tower in third stage...

jmyers2043

Maybe you can find a building that looks like this one and use it as a city hall ??? Looks kind of European to me.

Hello all,

Thanks for the good wishes acoordignt o my throat. It is getting better already.

@ peter007
Thanks for the drinking tip!
The expansion. I think you will get a warning and then you have to bulldoze the old and place the new lot. I don't really know.
In the explanation to the modd that allows the expansion is also an explanation to the three stage caps: take a look here.

@ Jack_wilds
What is it exactly that does not fit? Although I am (or maybe because I am) an architect I know that post war architecture does not always fit in as nice as the older architecture. I did this more or less on purpose, but also because this BAT is by a dutch member and because I like the model. What does not really fit is the stupid side part of the tower that sticks out at the side and the entrance that is at the backyard. Because of that the backyard is now not a quiet place anymore, but a parking lot.
So I put a bit of criticism in my lot.
Does this sound as an excuse for a bad lot, or it it a convincing statement?

@ jmyers2043
Where did you find this picture? It is definitely European. It's even Dutch. Furthermore: it's Deventer town hall! And it stands about 2,5km away from where I am sitting now.

:D   I was hoping that you would recognized it. Google Image search for Deventer City Hall ...

I was fearing telepathy did exist in the end....    :o

OK, so I passed the test. Pheww....  :-[
You couldn't know that I have meetings in this building every two weeks or so. This morning I am going there too.

noahclem

Haha, nice one Jim!  :D

Incidentally, it is a very nice-looking building too.

Congrats on the OSITM!
Best wishes and i hope You will recover fast!  :)
And i love Your townhall. Good idea and a really wonderful result! I think this is typical European, the old building is still standing but surrounded by newer ones.
You´re doing a great job as You tell us all a lot about history of town planning. Okay, especially dutch but nevertheless it´s more than only "interesting". As i said in Your farming thread: SimCity goes science!

Jack_wilds

its not the lot that is troubling nor is  it tej choice of stage one and two... its just stage three, although the structure chosen is a good example of 'modernism' and a good model...

it somehow doesn't jive with the progression, it seems to me there is a better modernist model to use... but for whatever reason -can't find it to show you... as its a simply tower -wider than deep, but ought to fit in the spot... its simple tower as in its about a mid-rise late 60's European structure I think glenni or mattb325 or VDA, Haarlemmergold... may of made what it is I'm trying to remember... would the Dutch Office Building SVB 1 by Haarlemmergold work?

I don't know if I'm being clearer or muddier but if you are really 'stuck' on that model, its your project and in the end its what you want to be... so don't get too hung up on my architectural sensibilities...

FrankU

So it took me some time, mainly caused by RL issues that I don't want you to bother about, until I found time to do some editing of the lots.
I decided, after some searching and tinkering, to stay with my selection of models.
I just did some small reshuffling and I added a small prop here and there.

So here they are in my latest version:

Stage 1

Stage 2

Stage 3

Please comment!

Besides needing some more sims on stage 1 and 2, these look ....wow!

for some reason, the tweaking worked as I 'feel' better about the third stage...  :)

RickD

That's a neat idea, adding buildings of different eras each stage.

@ Fred
I took the image of the first stage at a "game time" that the sims were at home and in bed... I never use the night view, so it's always daylight in my Cities. And indeed the white square with the foutain on stage 2 needs some people. Maybe I'll add a herring or icecream cart too.

@ Jack_wilds
Yes, I agree completely. The red paved square was too small and the white strip was too empty.

@ RickD
Thanks Raphael!

noahclem

Great work  &apls  I really like this version of stage 3
