That is a purty little airport you got there. Lots of people to cram into those bizjets! If you want it to make it a tad bit more busy, SCAG has some nice MMPs to populate the taxiways with.

I like the parking lots -- I used to have them, but I've completely forgot their name?

How big is that? Your city must have like, 5 million residents in the metro area to have that. :o I like it. Though, it would be a little more convenient to build parking garages instead of all those gigantic parking lots.

Makes me want to build airports again! Though I've never plunged in thoroughly. Looks like a pretty good setup you have here. Is that three large tiles? If so, that's a good scale I think.

That is one monster airport!  It's easy to forget how much space these take in RL when the Maxis airports which to me look like glorified landing strips are so small.  I certainly hope the people who parked their cars in that humongous lot take note of where they parked.  Keep up the good work!

Beautiful airport, particularly the taxiway markings and all that. With all the options available in game and the technical nature of their use it's neat to see one constructed really well like that. The business jet area seems to be heavily used, but then the entire airport is a massive complex. I'm not sure I would survive lugging a load of luggage from the far reaches of long term parking, but great to see plenty of parking was included.

Also, from the prior exploration update, I think that may be one of the best plop-game water transitions I've seen. With the exception of the bits near the bottom where you can still see the jagged edges, the transition seemed more or less flawless. Any tips on how to make it so smooth? It looks like there's a decent drop off in the terrain height underwater there to encourage the blurring.

I wasn't aware of the real Nyhavn when I created Nyhaven (despite my having visited Copenhagen beforehand); I simply knew that "new port" is among the most common meanings for city names, so I opted for an Anglicized version of the Danish for that phrase. I hope my city is as good in your opinion as the real Nyhavn!
krbe: Thanks, krbe! I'm aware of the SCAG MMPs, and I might just add a few of them to the taxiways here and there in the future. metarvo is right about the modular parking lot set I used; I hope his links proved useful to you. :)

Willy (Swordmaster): Thank you, Willy! If you're as good at airports as you are at rails, I look forward to what you come up with. You're right about the scale - the airport takes up most of one large quad and spills over into two others. I'm glad you approve of the scale - I tried to get that as realistic as I could, given the current limitations in airport-related custom content. The runways are 230 cells long from threshhold to threshhold, giving a reasonable length (3,680 m, or 12,073 ft); if the RMIP3 ever comes out, I'll finally be able to make those runways the right width (and I've left enough space to fit the wider runway pieces in).
metarvo: Thanks for stopping by, and thanks as well for helping krbe identify those modular parking lots! Yes, it's a pity that the Maxis airports are so tiny, but at least it gives us the opportunity to design unique, custom airports, along with all the BATs and lots needed to make them a reality.
Matt (threestooges): Thank you, Matt! I really appreciate all your compliments on my airport-building; as a fellow Angeleno, I'm sure you're as familiar with major airports as I am (I hope you've never had to drag lots of luggage from the far reaches of LAX's Lot C, though), so your comments mean a lot. As for the plop/game water transition in the preceding update, the best advice I can give you is actually something I learned from Noah (noahclem), who has really mastered the art of ploppable water usage over in Siilijoki: Modify your terrain mod's WaterDepthForMaxAlpha property so that it's a fairly small number (I set mine to 10 meters). That'll make the game water turn opaque at shallower depths than normal, which will make it much easier to blend ploppable water, especially in combination with a reasonably steep underwater slope (as you picked up on).

It's time for another present-day look at Nyhaven's metro area! Today, we're examining the second-largest city in the metro area, Kendall, which is also the capital of the Federal Kingdom of Lower Columbia. In particular, we'll be focusing on the city's Government Quarter, which is centered on the Royal Promenade, a large park shaped like the cross on Lower Columbia's flag:



Major public buildings anchor each of the Promenade's four ends, while a circle of 16 Lower Columbian flags sits at its center - one flag for each of the kingdom's states. Let's begin our tour, shall we?


First off, here's a look at the royal palace and its gardens. Kendall Palace is the royal family's official residence and where they spend most of their time during the year. The vehicles of the royal motorcade are stored and matinatined in the garage at left, which the King, his family members, and their handlers can discreetly access from the gardens. The second-floor balcony in the middle of the palace's façade is a popular place for His Majesty to address the public, who gather in the square in front of the palace (and sometimes spill across Palace Street into the Royal Promenade) to see and hear him. Parts of the offices of the Ministries of Finance (left) and Foreign Relations (right) are also visible.


This close-up shows the palace garage with its driveways onto Palace Street. Also visible are parts of the Ministries of Transportation (left) and Finance (bottom), as well as the pond in front of one of the larger foreign embassies in Kendall.


Parts of the Royal Promenade's northern arm and centerpiece are visible here. The imposing edifice in the top-right corner houses the main headquarters of Lower Columbia's Ministry of Defense, making it the command center of one of the AIN's most advanced and effective fighting forces. Situated across Defense Parade and the Promenade from it are the main offices of the Ministry of Home Affairs, just visible at bottom. Also visible here are the Ministry of Health (at top) and the National Cenotaph (bottom left). The latter was originally dedicated to the fallen heroes of the Columbia War, but it has since taken on a wider role as a monument to all of Lower Columbia's soldiers who gave the ultimate sacrifice for King and country.


Dashing across the center of the Promenade, we come to its southern arm. There are few ministry offices here, with the notable exception of the Ministry of Religion's offices (bottom left, cut off) and those of the Royal Marshalls (top right). Instead, the most prominent buildings on this part of the Promenade are Saint Catherine's Palace (home of the crown prince, who inherits the title of Prince of Saint Catherine) and two cultural edifices: the Museum of Faith (top center) and the King David III Playhouse.


Finally, we come to the eastern end of the Promenade, which is dominated by Parliament House and the adjoining parliamentary offices. As befits the capital's main rail station, Kendall Union Station is just a block from Parliament House and right across the street from one of the Federal Assembly's office buildings (the Federal Assembly is the lower house of Parliament). Also visible at top is the Columbia Museum, which houses exhibits on Lower Columbia's natural beauty.

Flatron: Thanks! I agree that some well-placed zerba crossings would work well around the edges of the Promenade, though I don't know if anyone's ever made any for the NWM networks.
Erik (vortext): Thank you, Erik! Those path textures are a point of personal pride for me, so I'm glad you like them so much. I was planning to release them after making a few more of them, but I may simply put them on the STEX as they are. I'm sure there are a lot of people who would find them very useful.

Well, it certainly has been a long time, hasn't it? Between looking for work, leading the best union ever (yes, I'm biased, but who wouldn't be?), and enlisting in the United States Army only to get out six weeks later, last year was pretty busy for me - so busy, unfortunately, that I didn't have much time to devote to even playing SC4, let alone maintaining this MD. Well, hopefully that won't be case this year. Already, in just the past week, I've managed to get beck into playing SimCity, so rather than let my MD languish any longer, I thought it best to post something, even if it's only a few WIP pictures.

To start off, here's a first for this version of Nyhaven: a subway map!



Now for those WIP pictures! I've completed the portion of the University of Nyhaven campus that's in the Central Nyhaven quad. Once I build the part that extends into the East Nyhaven quad, I'll post a proper FlashForward update showing the entire campus and its surroundings. For now, though, here are some pics of what I've already completed (click for full resolution):







Finally, here's a question for you all. Trying to do a historical MD has proven much more challenging than I expected. The limited amount of historical custom content makes it difficult to get the city to grow, much less to look the way I want it to. It's come to the point that I have to wonder whether it would simply be better for me to scrap the idea and go back to the transit-oriented story updates that all of you were so fond of in the previous versions of Nyhaven. Which would you, as readers, prefer - the historical MD that I planned to do, or a return to the modern-day stories you're used to from Nyhaven? Let me know in the comments.

I personally prefer the older transit focused MD's because they allowed me the opportunity to evaluate how you created and organized your complex transit networks.
