This is shaping up to be one your finest works of art, Arne. I love the way you do the copper roofs, but it's all the different shapes, heights and even colors working together that make this structure unique. I'm sure you must have shown us a photo of the RL church, but I don't recall where it is.

Thank you for your comments.

Been working on adding details to the roofs, cleaning up polys, chamfer corners all around the place:

A little video on the history of the cathedral:

Very interesting video of the church's history. Learning about the different additions, and the reason for them, makes it all the more intriguing.

vester

Here is a little something I am playing around with:

FrankU

The church is an amazing set of historical puzzle pieces and hence a great work of art. Your model looks to me like one of the best churches we have in the game. I hope I will be able to use it in my cities soon!  &apls

And the new project looks promising too. Will the glass be transparent?

vester

Thank you Frank.

The roof on the last structure is transparent, but its going to be a bit more transparent. Sometimes the settings you use for normal windows in walls, is not going well on roof structures as this one.

Been adding foundations and started working on the nightlights.
Still not sure, but think I am not going to add lights to the chapels as well:

These previews are just working renderings with settings set low.

Swordmaster

Nice! Are you gonna add some spotlights on the towers?

Cheers
Willy

Will do two version, one with this simple light
and one with spots on the church as well.

Will take inspiration in these pictures:

Looks fantastic, Arne!

Great! I was hoping you'd do that for this church too.

This is really looking good, and it's going to look gorgeous when it's finished. You really have a knack for creating stunning night-light effects.

Started working on the spot lights.

Using what is call photometric lights. When I figured out how to work them, its so much easier than the normal lights.

Got some strange shadow problems.
With just the brick structure visible, no problem. The shadow was there.
With the whole model visible, the shadow vanish.

Had to change from mental ray shadow to raytrace shadow.

Been adjusting the color of the copper roof textures. Thought the texture was a bit to dark, compared to the copper roof I see around here. We have a lot of copper roofs in Copenhagen.

First the good news:

Had to reexport it, as the lods was rotated :P

Then the bad news:

Has runned into some problems with the nightlights as you can see.
Have tried out a lot of different gamma settings. Nothing really does it.
This is how the textures looks:

gn_leugim

about the churche isnt it too bright? maybe is related to the lods issue you mention no?

vester

No the lod and the bright textures is not related problems. That is more a problem with how the textures is made up.

Might just give up on the sf bat4max script and go back to chrisadams.
First of: Like Xannepan says, I rather get some work out, than spending my time on rendering.
Mental ray rendering that is use in sf's version takes a lot more time than scandline render.

FrankU

I agree with gn_leugim.

The church is a fantastic project, but the image shows a very bright church. Too bright, I fear.
Of course it could be the image, but when it is the church I fear a re-render should be good. Even if it takes some more time.

Good luck!

vortext

Yeah, the church seems to be a little too bright.  &mmm

Other than that I can't wait to get my hands on it!

What I was trying to say, was that I hadn't finish working on the textures.

At the moment I am trying to solve the nightlight problem.
So far it looks promissing, but the textures has gone darker,
with the current set of settings, so maybe I don't need to touch the textures.

Time must show. Exporting the GLR station first.

art128

Arne, do you want me to do a test render of the tram station with my version of 3dsmax+Bat4max ?
