Bluebeard:  Sorry to hear that your computer got a little fussy on you!  I hope you didn't lose too much...

DFire:  Thank-you!  I tried to have a blend of urban and suburban styles.  And the Lil Red Schoolhouse was set up with farming communities in mind.  Sounds like I acheived both goals!   :D

Robin:  Thanks!  I love watching you try to think of things to say... adds a touch of humor to my day!  ;)

Bluebeard:  I actually know a guy who used to work for EA... according to him, they're not a very good place to work at all.  They bring programmers in for the next big project, work them to death, and then let half of them go.  Maybe that's normal for the business (I don't know) but it doesn't say much for job security.  I'm glad you like them, and thank-you!

Jose:  Thanks!  I'll have to go check your thread again.  I imagine you keep plenty busy... lots to get ready for!

Strech:  Thank-you!  Sorry I've been spelling your name wrong.  I always get mad when people put extra letters in mine, so you think I would know better!

Well... I got a fair chunk of the textures and lighting done on Rau's.  Some of the brick accents need adjusting as they just blend in and disappear right now... but I'm mostly pretty happy with it.  My gut tells me that something is missing, but I'm not sure what it is.  Anyway... have a look:

Any suggestions?

I like the Rau as it is, But maybe it's the roof. because of the angle it sho'ws little of the wlls compared to square buildings. Perhaps if you turn the triangular section of the roof into a open terrace for a café or perhaps  a relax area for the employee's of the offices in the upper floors. nothing to posh or fancy. just a break from standard roofing and bring a bit more life to it. Is that something your gut misses?

BTW don't mind the T :angrymore:. I'm holding no grudge or anything $%Grinno$%

hello jon my friend,as allways you are doing excellent work

It's looks awesome and a small Garden area sounds nice with a Iron railing around the edge.A few tables and a few plants boom.

R.u. planing to make this LOT diagonal? I'd love this.
Building: Simply beautiful! Great textures as always...

I agree with Bluebeard and Strechnitz about that triangle part of the roof.  Maybe if it were just a belcony with some tables and chairs.  Oh and what about an AC unit on the main roof?  Other than that it is super marvelous!  I will be adding this one to my collection for sure.

Other than the triangular terrace suggestion I think everything looks pretty good (aside from perhaps a non-store front entrance to the building (unless it's through the back)). Though it may be a few step early: Congratulations on another bat well done.

oldrogue

Looking very good my friend.....others brought up the points that I thought of...my
first thought was a large A/C unit...I like the idea of maybe some cheap looking lunch and smoke break accountraments on the roof........I see you've got the loading dock doors, but seeing as how this is a furniture store....maybe a bit wider &mmm....

as to the EA statement....worked with many huge corporations for a long time....that is SOP for most of them.....hire some newbie's and workem to death...or bring in a consulting firm to provide ...ummm consultants :P...and overpay them while working them to death (creates dissension in the ranks), or farm the job out to an overseas "sweatshop"....ahh well... c'est la guerre

Strech:  The angle does mess with the normal views, but I don't think a terrace is the way to go.  It wouldn't really fit this particular building (IMO) and seems strange to have in such a visible area as the front corner like it is.

Snorrelli:  Thanks!  Glad you like them.

Jacky:  Thank-you!  Nice to see you again!

Bluebeard:  It seems to be a common idea, but I just don't think the terrace will fit this style.

FromTheAshes:  Yes... this will be made for a diagonal corner lot.  Thank-you!

Robin:  Thanks!  I tried an air conditioner... but have a couple other things to try yet too.  We'll see...

Threestooges:  Thank-you!  You're right... there is no "apartment" entrance, which there probably should be.  It's missing from most of my buildings, really.  It will probably stay missing this time, but I've really got to start remembering that!

Oldrogue:  I thought about a loading dock at one point, but wasn't sure where to put it.  Then I forgot about it!   :D  I've added it in.  We won't even get into a discussion about "corporate America" at this point... I could go for days!  lol

Nothing to show today... thanks for all the suggestions.  I started a few things and have a few more to try.  Maybe something tomorrow.

I think that you need to put something on that triangular area.

The store on the corner strikes me as being one of three things:
- A pub
- A pawnshop
- A convenience store.

If it were a pub, it'd make sense for the tower above to be accomodation. If that were the purpose, then I'd say a small garden, even if only with a few small grass areas and a few benches, would be the goer. It wouldn't need to be anything fancy, it just needs to fill the space - that's prime real estate right there, and in a real city it would either be used up by a garden or leased as a small cafe.

If it were any of the other two, any sort of miscellaneous mess would fit there. IMHO I'd go for the pub/hotel combination as that will fit in whether in an $, $$ or $$$ area (I've found even in higher wealth areas, there'll be a grimier pub).

As for the textures, they suit the building to a tee - great work!  :)

Now, you probably didn't want to hear my view, but I'm posting it anyway.  :P

JBSimio

Robin:  Whoa... easy now!  You're going to need a nap after all that!   :D

Cammo:  Of course I want to hear your view... that's why I have a thread!   ;)  This is meant to be a furniture show room with the companies offices above.  That's what the real thing was, anyway.  I have some ideas to spruce up the triangular area, but we'll come back to that hopefully tomorrow.

In the meantime... I got distracted while in Saginaw last weekend.  I know... big surprise, right?  ::)  On top of that, Jestarr showed a rail barge he was working on and then agreed to make an alternate version for me.  So... here is a sneak peak of what will be happening with that:

Obviously, there's a long ways to go yet.  Most of this doesn't even have textures on it yet.  It will probably be some sort of freight station... quite possibly a reward with the BSC farms... versions with either Jeronij or SG canals or no canals at all...   You get the idea!  It's still early, so who knows what could happen?

Yah, you are right, shortly after that post I did dose  /wrrd%& off at my work station, I think it was only for five minutes or so.  Hopefully nobody saw me cause I'm going to blam it on you.  When they see that awesome building and that it's going to be on a diagonal lot, I'm sure they will understand..........right?  ;)  right??!

Wow, another great one.  Not sure myself what it is.  But if it's industrial....I'll take it.  Grain tanks for filling barges???  Looks great!!

Very nice on the grain elevators....hmmm...ok will get a canal set....sheesh ;D

There is probably a thread here in SC4D that has this already, but I'm lazy and wanna you an off the wall question %confuso....Was playing the game yesterday and (once again) was struck by the difference in scale with so much of the content, both from Maxis and the custom stuff.....isn't there a thing in BAT (I've never looked in it) that would kind of keep measurements accurate as in feet and meters so that a 6 hotel sitting next to a two story church would look like it belonged.....I've noticed that your creations are very close to the same scale for everything, but , there are some really nice models out there that just look so very out of place!    Did that make sense?    Oh well...

Thanks for everything..

Duane

Pub with a garden on the roof sounds interesting

I dunno, seems that there are already lots of "pretty" things available for this game

Have you thought about making it have shops like a dry cleaner, a convenience store , a indian restaraunt. You know, places that are truly urban in character and would bring some life to the neighborhood

I think it would be cool if the roof did have something on it, but instead of a garden like every other building it could maybe be paved with tar and there could be a shed or something. I bet marcszar would have some good ideas about something like that

As for the grain elevator, that is too cool. I was just thinking though, could you maybe render it one way as a offset prop w/o the water under the barges. I think that way it could be made to work with real water and not canals. With something like that you could make a river port like what is found in oklahoma and the midwest where agricultural goods are the primary cargo.
