As usual, your railroads look magnificent, my friend!

A great way to start your time in OSITM. I can't wait to see what you've been doing with the LE, too!

How do you do this? Almost every picture gave me an Aha-Erlebnis..  (memories brought up from RL events).

The first picture reminds me to driving S-bahn from Prenzlauerberg to my friend in Zehlendorf, the track between Steglitz and Mexicoplatz (satelite picture). Contrary to Yoman who looked at the trains I was sitting in the train looking at the houses behind the bushes ;)

The second and third picture remind me to the Murtal Bahn (video) between Murau and Tamsweg in Austria... Small agricultural settlements with a small station and sometimes a side track for industries, traintunnels and modern housing close to the station.. but especially the steam engine.

The fifth and sixth picture (Oreberg trainbridge) remind me to my youth. We lived opposite the trainstation in Meppel and in the early 70's a bridge was opened over pass over the tracks that looked very identical to the tracks in your picture, even with the Signal posts and tower (picture)! There was no bigger fun as taking the stairs up to the highest point of the bridge (next to the track) and then ride down on the autoped (scooter?) by it self (a special event in the flat Netherlands!)

The pictures of Aynuren remind me to villages in Italy, where trains approach a medieval town but make a curve just arround it. The last picture actually shows the medieval farmers Villa where we stayed a couple of days!

:satisfied: Now I thank you for the that I spent in your MD - reliving those days mentioned above Bernhard!  :satisfied:

Hello to All!

Here is the OSITM Special 2 - with pics only from two maps but I think you'll like them ... ;)

And as always before we start:

rooker1: Thanks for the compliment, Robin! :)
Actually with such details I have a picture in my head that I want to do in SC4, mostly "Detail Screenshots" - Some of them with a RL example, sometimes fantasy and sometimes a conglomerate of both. Then I am gping to do this picture by try and error and a lot of experience. After several tearing all down and/or exit without save I sometimes get the wanted result ... ;)

Yoman: Thanks for the compliment! :)
As I explained in Robin's reply I have some pictures in my head of what I want to do - real, past times, fantas, mixed. In addition to this I love rolling terrain and the earthwork built for them ;)

thundercrack83: Thanks for the compliment! :)
for the LE works I have to ask you for a little more patience though ...  :-[

Pat: Thanks for the complient! :)
About the LE see above ... :-[

bat: Thanks for the complient! :)

tooheys: Oh boy, now you make me flush ....  &blush
And yes, I had a nice coffee this evening ...  :D

sebes Thanks for the complient, my friend! :)
You know I love railways, all about it, trains, stations, tracks, people, especially "old time railways" - for West Germany this means before 1990 for me as empty stations and closed tracks make me sad. I saw a lot of railways, I love to look at pictures of that time, and I love to create some of this era's great atmosphere. It is more or less at least 30 years in watching railways what you see in my pics - yet I needed Llewellan's great CJ Digby to open my eyes back in the old days   %confuso

And with no further ado:

OSITM Special Nr. 2

The first map we visit is Bad Riedelshofen -  a small town in the hills, where a not electrified secondary railway line branches off from the main railway lines through the mountains here. One pic made it even to the HoF - can you find it? ;)
It is also the first time after years that I used PEG-Channels and the first time that I build a map with the raintool ...  ::) yes, I confess I can be a stubborn oldfashioned donkey sometimes ...  :D

Pic 1

Bad-Riedelshofen Eselshof is a small seddlement with some industrials. I made the layout before I got the electric signals so there are no signals here (by now ... ;) )

The bridge and the kanal. I am not using the raintool very often though, I am a bit lazy I guess ...  :D

Bad Riedelshofen Bhf still has mechanical signals (there aren't may railway stations left with mechanical signals and even less with mechanical signals AND cateneries ... ()sad() )
But I like this layout ... ;)

Today's second map is Wallmersdorf. A medium map with a big neighbor it features everything from highrise to small villages. Several pictures from here were in the competition, one of them made it to the HoF ...

Not the worst village but I am still not satisfied with it, even though I went to the HoF with a pic from here ...

I did a lot of playing around with the electric signals here in Wallmersdorf.
I am thinking of making a tutorial one day about these signals but be assured you'll need to know the LE to really use them!

This one was rather tricky and required to switch several times between LE and SC4 ... But it was worth it!

Oh btwI still have some nice coffee left  ;)   :D

Have fun!

Bernhard

(PS: Some more pretty yellow borders, Dave ... )

Ennedi

Great pictures Bernhard, your catenaries and signals add a lot of life to your railways!
A little tutorial would be very nice... ;)

Hello to All!

It is still OSITM season for me and today's theme is airports ...

...

()what()

...

oooops

:-[

...

Now that was a joke - of course I'll go on with railroads and leave the above mentioned theme to those who want to ;)

But before we start as always:

Ennedi: Thanks for the compliment my friend! :)
The tutorial will come, but there is a lot to do before I can publish it here ... ;)

mightygoose: Thanks for the compliment! I hope I am able to continue ... ;)

bat Thanks for the compliment my friend! :)

And now, Ladies and Gentlemen, let me present you the

OSITM Special 3
Before and After 1

We will visit a small railway station in Goldhagen, not far away from my big town Gleiwemünde (shown at "Simtropolis in 2005/06)  and its industrial Neighbour Schlothlingen (not shown yet). The railway line had been electrified with frogface's catenaries and has been redone with the SFBT catenaries plus electric signal. As you read in the title I'll do a comparison old and revisited.

I was rather satisfied with the layout then ...

The mix of Residential, Commercial and Industrial together worked out rather satisfying. The R$$ tower got replaced by a Maxis R$$$ - unfortunately, but this is the only minor drawback by redoing it!

Seen the old status? Okay, now let's revisit it!

Frogface'S catenaries were good at their time, yet I never liked the design of the twotrack - catenaries, but I do love Kenworth'S oeuvre ... especially with royal's signals they do give that special RR atmosphere I was seeking for so long!

Yes, that Y is ugly but honestly I didn't find a better solution (not even me ...  :'( )

The big Maxis tower that replaced the R$$ (wasn't it a Simgoober?) not too bad but I wished I made the other one historic...
Anyway I like that perspective!

Kenworth's region Runner leaves the station.

With this closeup I close this special...

That's it for today!

Have fun!

Bernhard

bat

That's another great special of this railway! Wonderful work on that area!

Looking forward to more...

paroch

Some great updates there Bernhard.  You have been busy.

I know it's been said before - but your trains, railways and stations make you the SC4 RailMeister!

Nardo69

Hello to All!

The fourth OSITM shows the railways of Petersberg, a rather large map. You see some pictures of it in the competition ;)
The pictures show different stages of developement and resp. before betatesting the electric signals

But before we start:

bat: Thanks for the compliment1 And here we are ... ;)

paroch: Thank you my friend! :)
And SC4 Railwaymeister, well, now THAT would be a nice CML ...

No let's go i medias res:

OSITM Special No. 4

Pic 1: A Conatiner Terminal. Industrie is rather important in Petersberg. No Signals because they still under construction ;)

Pic 2: I had a lot of fun with the electric pols, railway and highway here!

Pic 3: How 'bout a match? Do get two teams?

Pic 4: Between highway and railway ... :)

Pic 5

Pic 6: You expected to see them, didn't you? ;)

Pic 7: I like it dirty and rural ... ;D

Pic 8: Like Pic 1, but different angle!

Pic 9:

Pic 10

Pic 11: A freight train is running through the station. I just love this one!

Pic 12: Looks like selling smarts is a better business than selling burgers ... ;D

Pic 13: As a bonus a small RR station from Rennberg, another small rural map, that is supposed to play a role in a "How to make RR stations" - tutorial - but shhhh, this is still a secret ;)

That's it for today

Have fun!

Bernhard

bat

Wonderful fourth update there in this month, Nardo!

And great work on the signals and railways!! Fantastic pictures!

Looking forward to OSITM Special No. 5...

rooker1

That was as uper update my friend.  I had to go over it two times to get everything.  So many small details you add to your rail lines to make them so life like.  I see you follow your rules very well, too.  I have to give them a try in an up coming update.  But I have been very busy, RL and a secret project.
I look forwrd to what you will have for us next.

Awesome update. My favorite pics are 3 and 6.  &apls
I'm so jealous that you already have those signals. But I'm wondering how you place them. Are they transit enabled and you plop them on the tracks? Doesn't this screw up pathfinding? Or do you place them next to the railway and have thousands of lots with different base textures to match the surrounding?  ()what()

Looks like a missed some action around here, I do apologize for that, my friend. But I've gotten through everything and I must say that you're certainly making the most of your time here in OSITM! I can't wait to see what you have planned for your next update!

I like the looks of your railway freight stations.     They've given me some ideas and I feel like batting something now.  ;)

Hi Bernhard,

Nice update there.  The sidings with the red carriages is my favourite.  And also pic 3, that footie pitch just looks so right there.

Enjoy your last days in OSITM.  Well, this time round anyway ;)
