There are 556 windows in this thing.  Thank God for the array tool. :P

It's like creating skycrapers, but in the other direction. ;) As usual, very promising work so far, and we can't have enough of those "canal buildings".

I fully agree with Andreas on this one ... never enough canal buildings. Knowing jestarr's quality I already know it will be great.

Earthscraper? ::)

Very cool! Reminds me of old 18th century warehouses build in the london docklands.

So, I've started working on the roof junk.  Some will stay, some go, and some will stay, but in a modified form (particularly the end roof building).  Anyway here's a pic of it's current state.  Cheers!

Looks like a large Soviet Factory to me, so maybe Moscow Toilet Paper Generating Facility :P

Very nice, look forward to this one, fits my cities perfectly :)

Hello Jestarr,

I'm very impressed with your latest creation - excellent work!

I do, have a question for you though. On one of your last BATs you used a covered hopper. I was wondering what scaling rule you used for it? I also made one based on an HO scale model (55' ACF Covered Hopper) that ended up being longer than a tile. I noticed yours are shorter and was wondering if I made a mistake with mine. Here is what mine looks like, not too bad, but not good either. I would also like to hear about your "RoadUnit" prop. I have always wanted to re-texture it, but never had a chance to make a GP40/GP38-2 on my own.

jestarr

@Frankie:  Mine was based on a 40 ft. hopper which I extended slightly so it would look better in-game.  The road unit is a fairly generic locomotive.  I was going to make a tutorial on how I did it, but didn't really have the time to finish it.

toxicpiano

I don't know if this was at all what you were going for but it more and more reminds me of the isle of dogs  :D
If you're interested, take a look at these and see if you can see where I'm coming from  ;D

Glad you all like it. ;D  OK, here's a pic of my first in-game render.  This was to check to see if the textures held up.  I'm not very happy with the window texture, so it's history.  Most everything else isn't too bad, although, I can see some areas that need tweaking (both textures and model).  Cheers!

Pat

Jestarr i do think the building overall is turning out very good and keep up the hard work - pat

Jestarr, Do you make your own brick textures?

Andreas

Wow, that's one massive building! Truly an "earthscraper", as RippleJet called it. ;)
Andreas

jestarr

@toxicpiano:  Yes and no.  I get my basic brick textures, mostly, from Acme Brick.  I then rework them using techniques I got from Gascooker, Jeronij and Simgoober.

@Andreas:  It did kind of grow, didn't it. ;D

mightygoose

that acme thing has solved so many of my problems with brickwork, thanks for sharing such a wonderful resource.
