Since I am a fan of making addons for Simgoobers canal stuff - I figured this would be a good place to show off all of the neat things that we have done with the canal base and with the addons that come on board over the years. ;D
this is a pic of the new canal stuff that will be hitting the LEX soon - as you can see in the pic that there is a variety of things that can be done with them. one of then is the Newman Inc Garbage Processor. also a new up and coming canal park walk. and you can also see the Newman Inc canal brewery there too ;D

on the last pic, i tried to LOT a cool plaxa like canal walk...but it realy didn't turned out the way i wanted!...i recently found out...that i stink in LOTing
lol ferry you have also done a beautifull job with the canals
Wow great job everyone
I however have to learn how to use them on a sloppy terrain.
So if anyone have some tips about that please share &kiss
BarbyW that is an awesome job you did with the meddeterainian canal stuff &apls and to Fledder200 your canals look super too. I see that you like to have trees along your canals also. This new pack that is coming real soon will fit the bill for you I promise - I think you will like it ;D

unfortunalty they work best on flat land - cant seem to make them slope friendly :(
Quoteunfortunalty they work best on flat land - cant seem to make them slope friendly
I don't expect them to be SF :). I will use lock to get a level change
My main problem is to find the best way to plop them so that it looks quite good ( ie the water won't go upward ). Something for SC4TF for sure &Thk/(
here are some more pics of the upcoming new canal park walks - I hope you enjoy the pics

Imo on the last pic the lot looks a bit cluttered with that amount of trees, otherweise good work :)
wow those bridges look so awsome!!!!
yeh i like trees along the canal! make it more alive :)
Fledder200 - you and I think alike the more trees the merrier - It does make the city seen more alive - I dont know about you since you have to have the update for simcity4 after the update most of the lots that maxis has lost there trees. that is why I like to build lots with alot of trees to put the life back into it :D
yep...i plop them everywere!
i love them tree, that's why i love jeronij's street mod...that realy makes the place more alive and true to the real world! ( and then to think that in the readme was a advice not to use it in historical or old city-centers %wrd )
:)
Hey Citynut...
I also love the trees.....do I see seasonal changing trees along those paths?
.............................................
Sorry I was wiping the drool of my keyboard. WOW Those are some incredible pics. Can't wait to see this stuff available on the LEX. I am always amazed at the talent that is out there making this stuff. Truely fantastic. As far as the trees go, I'd have to say they do look just a tiny bit heavy/thick in the pics that I am guessing are "summer". The "winter" pics look like the right amount. So that is gonna make it a tough call. If they are gonna be seasonal trees then I suppose there aren't too many. Great job on um so far.
---Gaston
yes you are right the trees are the semi-seasonal ones same I used for the RPK stuff and I think most lots only have two trees on each side
Looking good people! I love the trees Citynut. Having grown up and living in South Africa we're used to trees everywhere and I usually tree-ify my cities waaay to much.
I can't wait for the release of the above. Keep up the good work! ;)
:o
Those drawbridges.... ???
I must have!!
Awesome work  Keep em coming!
Wow, great stuff Citynut. Fledder maybe you sucka t lotting (at least you try!) but you marvell at builing an AMsterdam style city. Wish I could see more of it as it is absolutely flabbergasting!
Citynut, good idea that little waterfall between the canals and Peg ponds! Interesting texture you have at the corner of these ponds, kind of light brown with trees.
Barby. Now I know why they all call you Godess! What a magnificent work with Venice recreated.
I sit and awe (and drool).
Nik-Nik
All looks wonderful!
Can't wait to have the upcoming new canal park walks!
Okay CityNut,
In the pic posted yesterday. (the date in the pic it "12/13/84" and it he first in the series of 4 regarding "upcomming new canal walk parks") There is a transition from what looks like PEG Pond 2 and Simgoober Brick Canals. Is that available anywhere? I have never seen it that I know of. That one piece is exactly what I have been looking for. :o That piece and perhaps one to transition to the narrow brick canals. If it isn't available yet, do you need someone to test it for you? "$Deal"$ (If it is your's.) Please feel free to PM me and even e-mail me if you like.
I almost sure that transition is part of the BSC RPK. It allows you do many of the things that Pegs Ponds/Stream Kits allow; however, it includes transitions to/from Goober's canals and Pegs transitions. Check for it on pegasus' site (http://simpeg.com/dload.php?action=file&file_id=220)
Thanks mrgscottc. Now I know too. ;)

mrgscottc. I'll go back over and look for it. I just spent half the day dl stuff from there lol
---Gason
I would make alot more transitional stuff from pegs pond stuff but he doesnt have props and I not sure how he does it &mmm :( :'(but he ever made those as props boy watch out I would go to town make all sorts of transitions lots between all 3 kits ;D :D
Great thread... I'm going to try and get some of my pics to show here too!
This was my first attempt at an industrial canal, and the centerpiece of one of my cities. I think it turned out pretty nicely.

Bwatterud: Those canals look great! I love the little seaport you have there with the bridge going over it, and the locks that are up the canal a little way. Very realistic!
Bwatterud - those are some great pics keep up the super work. I should have those new canal pieces up in a few days- got them back yesterday - just need to package them up and have the rest of the team test first then I will upload here on the LEX ;D
impressive Bwatterud! Very nice those industrial canals. I like the fact that they are 3 or more tiles wide and you made a great solution for the bridges with that rail bridge!
I love that big warehouse complex of pic 2, Whose is it?
Thank you for that link mrgscottc. I love to download from PEG's but I hardly ever go beyond SG stuff. This transition lot helps me a lot (no word joke intended)!
Nik-Nik
ah shucks guys, I decide to check out a few threads and I find this one. Now I'll need to start playing some more with these...
I've been thinking of doing an updated pack of these.. merging all the existing lots into one or two mega DAT files, and adding a few minor additional lots I made for my own use, but never released. Now I may have to start playing with that again as well... lol
Bwatterud, excellent use of the canals. One day, I might actually use these if..... one of the minor lots SimGoober is thinking about releasing is a diagonal lot for the base set. :P
Bwatterud,
Very very kool stuff. I love the first pic. The making of a man-made island to facilitate transportation is brilliant. How about a daytime shot of the same so it is more visable? I don't think I would have ever thought of that. Now, I have a feeling something similar is going to appear in one my cities.
I am really enjoying this thread.
Simgoober,
I don't know exactly how to say this. You have created some of the greatest custom content available. I have more "Simgoober" stuff in my game than anything. I for one just wanna say thanks. (Okay enough sucking up) What and when are ya gonna release? I don't even know what it is, and I already want it because if you made it, it has to be kool. LOL

Man i realy love your stuff!!!...did i already said that i love your stuff!!
ps: i love your stuff!!
@ NikNik: thanx!! i have a CJ on ST you can find it ----------------> Here! (http://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=36&threadid=83940)
Ok, here are two new lots I am testing. I have a few more in mind, so won't post anything until i "finish".. or get bored and move onto something else... lol.
I made a 1 tile wide "Terrace' to help fill in the gaps. The first set has only a three tile wide one. And also an inner corner...

Hey, Goober! Glad to see ya here. Ain't this a great site? Of course, ya gotta be a major serious Simcity4 player to be here, so ya practically belong here, man.
Great use of the canals. I myself have yet to dust off every last canal download I have, and I'm so lookin' forward to your new additions, Goob. Might wanna post your ideas on SimPeg (that is, if I'm allowed to advertise on here) and let everyone else know whatcha up to. C'ya there, man!
Awesome canal uses, tho. I've REALLY gotta get back into that. I miss my old cities on my old hard drive, that's where some of my best are (were). Oh, well. there's always new interventions 'n ideas! Great job, y'all!
Simgoober,
Very kool stuff. I love the inside corner. That is looking really good. Can't wait to see what else you have up your sleeve.
---Gaston
They look great Simgoober! I have always wanted terraced corners and fillers
@-NikNik - The warehouse complex in pic 2 is Citynut's Newman Inc Shipping. I'm pretty sure it's just on the STEX.
wonderful canalstuff @ everyone who have posted some canalstuff!
I've posted a few pics of some of SG's Canals and with BSC Parks (including some new yet-to-be-released pieces) here (http://sc4devotion.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=35&topic=335.0).
WOW DW. I love those little airplanes. Wonderfull work.
Great Canals too.
Did you have a look at that French site as mentioned by Toxicpiano?
They look great.
Nik-Nik
Wow SG showed up - that is so cool the Canal God &apls - great job as always on the stuff you are thinking about releasing. those look really sweet. Great Idea on maybe merging all of the great lots into one or two big dat files. But ;) you know me I'm always thinking of different ways to make something new with these. So the mega packs may never end ;D
&apls &apls to Simgoober for the original Idea
Sorry if this is the wrong place for this. But it was the first place I could think of for help. :)
Okay once again I have an odd question/problem. I DL'd the avenue bridges for SG's canals from the STEX before the were put on the LEX. They don't seem to wanna show up in my game. They show up but no bridge is there. Just the lot without the bridge itself. This is for all of them not just one of the bridges. I guessed I was missing a dependency file. So I searched around and made sure I had all the dependencies listed. Still they didn't show right. So... I used SC4Tool to see what I was still missing. (Thanks Barbyw and Andreas Roth) It says I am missing a couple of files but it lists the files as "unknown" but I have what I think (not a programmer) are the hex numbers for them. If anyone can help with this please let me know. I'll be happy to list the numbers I have, if it helps. PM or E-mail is okay with me. I have re-down loaded the lots from the LEX just incase they might contain the missing files. I am gonna wait to reinstall um just incase someone might have an answer.
I'll see if I can post an image later.
---Gaston
Ripptide posted the wrong file for the first set  and I posted two further files later that sorted the problem and also had pathing from Swamper77 added. You either need to download the other files from the STEX or get the pack on the LEX as that is the complete one ;D
Thanks again Barbyw,
As ususal you came through for me. I did excactly that. I DL'd the LEX version. Time to run data packer again and have some fun actually playing the game. LOL
---Gaston
work in progress:) more screenies later
Citynut & SG, Please, please, please, please, release those additions to the canals, I love the park walk along the canals, CN and the 'fillers' are beyond what I've needed SG!
   &apls &apls &apls
Great work CN and SG!
SG,
Have you considered at all diagonal pieces for variable width canals, the same way you created the single-width canals?
I just discovered some files over at toutsimcity that use the same water texture, but don't have the brick shores... rather grassy ones:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg65.imageshack.us%2Fimg65%2F3459%2Fimage628pg1.jpg&hash=8cdc9a2d0d537ff20d8f7292f39e3bda2e94297e) (http://imageshack.us)
BTW, those files can be found HERE (http://www.toutsimcity.com/downloads2.php?voir=628&type=l&page=2)
Everything looks great so far, so I am somewhat hesitant to throw my two cents in (but why not?):
These are part of the same canal system (one of my first tries) that are fed from an artesian well that then flows out to the sea

These pictures highlight the gardens a big more... I'll see if I can take some actually OF the canals themselves.
I've got another city that has more industrial-styled canals using Peg's. I have yet to take any pics of that city yet, though. Hope you like 'em!
wow nice shots everyone!!
CabraBuitre: i love that big park with the overflow's!!
threestooges : that beach pic is amazing!!!
Everybody - I love all the pictures sor far - Everyone is is doing a super job using the canal makes me inspired to come up with more stuff ;D - Love it, just love it. Keep the pictures coming
:o This is amazing stuff!! I will try to get some pictures of my pointless attempts to use these awesome lots
wonderful canalstuff to everyone! &apls
Thanks CabraBuitre for the link to grassy canal banks. Those will look mighty good in a rural setting between my farms.
I was just going to work on some of my farms so it will come in handy.
Thanks.
Keith
Welcome to page 4
Very kool use of SimGoober's canals. I like the terraced park,
CabraBuitre. I love the cascades with the stairs next to them. Where did the stair lots come from? I might have them and am just missing them. I got a
LOT of stuff in the parks menu. LOL If someone wanted to create a very useful mod, it would be one that I could change all those water based "parks" into "seaport menu" items. Then I could spread um out a bit.
---Gaston
Nifty stuff!
The "stairs" are actually rapids.. and included with the narrow canal package.
The stairs that connect the BSC parks are from Marrast. They're on the STEX under the BSC tag because they were lost after the last major upgrade.
The "cascade" like SG said, is from the narrow canal package.
I'm excited that you're considering expanding the canals SG!!
Wow, outstanding job, CabraBuitre! I love the tiered canal park you did especially! Keep up the good work!
Thanks SimGoober and CabraBuitre,
I did know about the "cascades" or "rapids" from the narrow canals. I definately have them. They are really great. It is the park stuff I wondered about. I didn't realize they were by Marrast. What about the pedestrial bridges in the 1st and last pics from yesterday? Are they his as well?
I can't seem to get enough of this stuff.
---Gaston
Gaston,
The ped bridges are props originally created by Swi21. If you look on the STEX HERE (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?page=1&keyword=bsc%20park%20bridges%20bls&type=all) but I imagine they will be moved over here in the future. I created lots myself using the props, though I'm not sure which prop pack they're from at the moment...
There are two bridges, a stone one, and a brick one. In my picks, I used the stone ones. In Barby's lots in the link above, the brick one is highlighted.
Hope that helps!
I need to start playing around with BSC parks again. I downloaded one of the related packs when I was young and foolish and didn't know what dependencies were, so when the lots didn't show up right, I thought that they were broken $%Grinno$% But now that I know more
(&scl()), I should probably start using them again. Oh, right. This thread is about canal stuff. Here you go.

Very nice job with the narrow canals. Gives it a feel similar to Venice, California (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venice%2C_Los_Angeles%2C_California). I just realized that in my previous post I never posted the overview of that area. I just happened across it recently so...

No modesty there Threestoges $%Grinno$% Those three water towers on that little island LOL!
Nice to see SimGoober here. Welcome!
Nice close ups Bwatterup.
Great parks Cabrabruite! Good use of those cascades!
Nik-Nik
Great canalstuff @ all!
Thanks for the comments (if you have suggestions too, those would be good).
-NikNik: The idea behind the canals/towers is that the water towers are meant to be pumps that pull water from underground. The water comes from the sea, but the process of it moving back through the sand/dirt desalinizes (I don't know if that is actually possible, but why not. Water for the town is drawn from the canal and the leftovers are deposited back into the sea. Furthermore, the fact that the water moves through the canals to the sea results in it being warmed by the sun and raises the water temperature so that, when it enters the sea, the surround water is heated resulting in a popular swimming area for the locals.
impressive! me likes ;D
Very nice canals everyone
Great stuff @ everyone.

Even though the canal may not be the most notable part of the pic, it is certainly well-intergrated into the rest of the city. Is the lighting photoshopped in or should I be playing the game with day/night transitions on again? Great work.
Great work, not just with the canals, but also with the cites  ;)

Colyn,
Great use of Jeronij's new canals. I can't wait till we can use them too. ;) I have to agree with FredGinger about using them. LOL That is a really nice house on the right (I also agree with Cali.) It looks a little familiar but I don't know why. I am pretty sure I don't have it. Who's it from?

All we can hope for is that the wall holds ...
you guys make canals look so easy to use! :'( well, im pretty intimidated with using them but you all sure make me want to try! very nice work! and yep. i sure do hope that the wall holds! &mmm i've so much to learn from canal-ing. lol wow. i think i'll have another round of those canals from the top to get some juices flowing and maybe i'll try my own. lol
i love these canals, i too would love to be sitting right there with a nice cup of tea ;D
I'll join you Cali, I've got my tea! Colyn I really like the brick facade but I think the 'floor' is too bright.... to much contrast between it and the other side (I really like the stone/cement-y texture on the other side). So, when are you and Jeronij going to stop teasing us??????
I have to agree with Fred_Ginger about the textures. I also have to say that I really like the new dam layout. Much more impressive that the previous model, which was already impressive
Colyn,
I love the new dam. I would have to agree with the others about the texture on the "deck". I think it makes the scale look odd. I would agree with Fred-Ginger that the cement texture looks pretty good. Other than that I'd say it is pretty close to perfect.
---Gaston

Great canal stuff, threestooges. I'd love to see this same pic from some other angles. It is difficult to see the difference in elevation from that shot. Lately I have been fascinated by GLR and canal combinations. They seem to be a natural together for some reason.

@Colyn: I forgot to mention earlier how much I like the idea of being able to transition from a dam to canals!!! &apls &apls &apls
Okay threestooges,
You have stumped me again. How did you make the GLR bridge? If there are puzzle pieces for this I can't spot them. LOL Also the pieces that the "river" runs through (opposing canal ends) look very familiar but then again I have never seen them with the end dropping off like that.
---Gaston
Amazing work TS, i love the elevation changes &apls
Gaston:
Yeah...that had stumped me too. That part is a continuation of the the earlier pics and I had built it all up before I realized there was no on-slope glr bridge type thing (and I know there isn't b/c I tabbed through the list many times) but what I noticed (and at present have no pictures of...I knew I should've taken them in process but I think I can get some...) (got it) that there was a glr/elevated rail ramp, an idea came to me.
EDIT: In order to save space/loading time, and to keep this thread on topic, I have moved the glr bridge making tutorial. It can now be found in the "HOW TO BUILD..." tutorial section of this site that you can link to (here) (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=766.msg21082#msg21082).
Thanks threestooges. After looking at the pics a while and then "playing" with the GLR pieces a bit I sorta thaught thats might be what you did. Very kool indeed. I haven't done alot with GLR. I am a bit afraid of it and elevated rail. I am always crashing the game by "hovering" over transit enabled stuff. And I hate when it crashes. :angrymore: Thanks again for showing the process.
BTW, do you know if you have to "activate" the ramps by running el-rail through them like you have to do with the GLR stations? (I just recently found that bit of information out. LOL) Hmmm, maybe we should start up a "Show us your ... GLR" thread. Then smart people (yup I'm sucking up. ;) ) like you could post tutorials and such on how to use GLR properly. Plus we'd all get to see some really kool stuff. Hmmmm, I'll have to think about that some.
---Gaston

great canals guys!
i agree, great work to all :)
Exceptionally well done everyone...
-FromTheAshes: the buildings (I think) are what really help to make this canal pic. the canals are nice n their own, but the surroundings really raise the wealth level. I'm not sure what buildings those are, but they look like they belong.
-Bengt: I don't believe I have seen a port built on a canal system in the game before (or maybe I have not been paying attention). Yours looks really good. The cranes hanging over the canal are a nice sight, and you have tied that brown building along the canal (the one that angles inward) very nicely.

U'r right, threestooges. Thats just the only picture I took of the new canals ;)
Really great stuff from everyone.
@Bengt:
I love all the cranes and loading docks. Did you customize someones lots? I have a set or 2 of cranes that look similar but they will only plop if half on "game" water. Or are these lots I don't know about?
@FromTheAshes:
I see you've managed to tuck a small underground garage in there as well. Very nice.
@Colyn:
Again you have managed to slip in something new I haven't seen. LOL I am guessing that is a custom house with the little dock? It looks faintly Japanese. Very nice.

Thanks, I loooove theese :D
Gaston: Those cranes are just Somy's, and I plopped them to the dry land about 2 squares from the canals.

Gaston, very interesting what you did with the draw bridge(s) did you make your own lot? - well done I like it
Gaston: I was wondering when we would get a chance to see your work. The pic is very nice. I like how you used the culverts and the road to take care of the slope transition (though for that I would recommend using jeronij's culvert that has the spray coming out...the drop seems like it would cause the water to exit with a considerable amount of force). The areas looks like it will be a nice place to shop when it's all developed. I too am also curious where the drawbridge came from (I recall seeing something similar, but I can't be sure). One last comment: though not necessary, removing the pause border from the pic seems to make it look nicer (either through photoshop or just not pausing it, though that can make getting some pics difficult). Look forward to seeing more.

Gaston, very interesting what you did with the draw bridge(s) did you make your own lot? - well done I like it
I'm pretty sure those lots are included you Canal Park Walk set.
Threestooges: the draw bridges are part of my Canal park walk set available on the LEX - just do a search for citynut
Gaston: I could of sworn I had trees on all of those lots - yours had no trees - but I like it well done

Yes those are your's
Citynut. Hmmm, if they had trees I must be missing a prop then. Not suprising for me really. I've found several lots I am missing props for. ??? I didn't realize I was missing the trees there. I took the picture to show off MAS71's walls actually. But here is another:

Great! This looks really Great!! But one thing ;) I see those textures, in front of the church in this picture. These parks with sort brown/gray bricks. Does anyone know where i can find those? And how do i change the sides of the roads? Normally it is that white texture. In this picture it is also these brown/gray bricks! I really love that!
Thx for helping me ;)

....One question, where i can find these seasonal trees? ...they looks awesome next to the Canal
Saludos
ussagus,
I am almost sure they are Jeronij's trees. I think they are included in the BSC version of the canals that can be found on the LEX. I'm not 100% sure but about 99% ::) There are also some links to seasonal trees over at Dedgren's Three River's Region ( which of course is located here at SC4Devotion ) ;D And a tutorial that Dedgren started on how to create your own seasonal tree lots. (unfortunately it was never finished due to other fantastic projects that superseeded it. ) Hope that helped.

Ok, here are two new lots I am testing. I have a few more in mind, so won't post anything until i "finish".. or get bored and move onto something else... lol.
I made a 1 tile wide "Terrace' to help fill in the gaps. The first set has only a three tile wide one. And also an inner corner...

I search and search, but cannot it not find.
Where can I download these parts? Has who the URL there?
I don't think SG ever released them... correct me if I'm wrong?
I've never seen them before and actually I downloaded every part of the canals. (Or not? :D)
SG said, in the above quote:

So I assume he either hasn't finished them or he's gotten bored and moved on. :P

You should head to the STEX and look for work by:
vanderaap (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?page=1&Keyword=vanderaap&view=all)
Haarlemmergold (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?page=1&Keyword=haarlemmergold&view=all)
tatooedmillionaire (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?page=1&Keyword=tatooedmillionaire&view=all)
Ten Doornkaat (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?page=1&Keyword=ten%20doornkaat&view=all)
With these
three four you will have plenty to build an entire old Dutch city.

Along with all of the necessary dependencies listed. ;D

i already had that downloaded

is it in the parks menu?
::
No, they are growable commercial services lots (CS$$ stage 1).
how did you make them grow where you wanted it to?
::
It's probably a weird sized lot (one that maxis wouldn't make any lots for). Check the readme to see how big the lot is, and hold shift while zoning to make the appropriate sized lot. It shouldn't be all that hard to make grow after that (if you have any demand at all for CS$$)

the readme doesn't say :(
::
They are all 1x1, 2x1, 2x2 and 1x2 sized growable LOTs.
so i should try holding down the control key and making lots that size?
light commercial?
::
It's not really necessary to hold down the CTRL key while zoning, but if it would be easier, yes, then do it. ;D
They are low density commercial services. ;)

These fillers are different from many others, they blend very well with the Jeronij Street Side Mod, they are not aggressive and can be used in many different cities. This is what I call simple but beautiful &apls
Maybe yoy would like to think about releasing them?
And of course all this place with the canal and Dutch buildings is very nice, I like it very much :)

Wow, I'm proud you all like it so much! :o
Hm, release the lots - I don't know how much dependencies they have... I will have a look ;)
And yes, of course, these diagonal fillers are very useful! :) I love the SFTB-Team for that upload
Wonderful areas near the canal, Khiyana! Great work on it!
Wow Khiyana, those are some of the absolute BEST Amsterdam-styled canal scenes I've ever seen! That is just simply amazing work!
Excellent canal shots- &apls. i agree that the parking lots should be released. Riverside College looks great next to the canal and nice details throughout.

Excellent canal shots- &apls. i agree that the parking lots should be released. Riverside College looks great next to the canal and nice details throughout.
If that is the case where did it come from?
I love the round-a-bout in this shot as well. Did you make this as well?

Thank you M my friend. Hope all is well in South Africa.

The round-a-bout filler is "The Park Of Brotherly Love", I only changed the base-texture. You can find it here --> http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=11691&v=1 (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=11691&v=1)
wow, all these canals look great! @ khiyana- the pic with the NDEX college is awesome, i like how you created a little "island" in the canal; very pretty.
so...here's my meager contribution...

nice work guys, I haven't really used canals a lot before because I mostly build in unsuitable terrain.
But I am currently working on a kind of Scandinavian looking Region (more Danish/Swedish looking than Norwegian)...
Here is a small teaser;
--- Yes I know there are some empty pockets, it's a work in progress ;) ---
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg98.imageshack.us%2Fimg98%2F9592%2Ftry1pl4.jpg&hash=1e3070652bf3e2106ad563aea2ca4ca4d8e4080c)
Hope you like the idea, I might make a MD out of this one ;)
take care,
I love the way the road curves there
Yea that road curve is really great looking? How/what did you do to do that?
ExiLe, very nice work! But you might want to pick up an updated version of the Euro mod, as it's got textures for road turning lanes.
Thanks guys!
I think I actually have some corrupt files, my roads used to look better before i had to format my HDD. Thanks for reminding me, I can't seem to find the Euro mod here on SC4D anymore though... ()what()
Facepace:
Actually you can do that with the NAM, you just have to experiment a bit... It was also the only way the road would go "naturally" around the curve of the building...
take care,

Danke Andreas, das wäre genial! ;)

A new pic of the same area at night... (filled up some empty lots and such though).

Beautiful pictures of your work with the canal, ExiLe!
Danke Bat! :)
I have been trying to add more canals and w2w's in the same city, but I have been really busy with RL stuff lately :S.
I want to make a MD again, but I have a long way to go if I am to use this city in one.
Anyway, I might add a picture tomorrow of a different area. ;)
take care,
i guess this would be considered a canal...

Do you mean the trench for the sunken highway? If so, then yes; it is meant to drop lower than the bottom of the canal.

That's my extension to CAL's canals. The standard CAL canals sit near the surface - these are a little deeper.

Fine canal my friend and also your city is looking super
All of this stuff is excellent. I particulary like the last one in Emperor Stormont's selection with the canal on one side and the game water on the other. Wiederhoren's moat is also well done. Great work everyone.

Wow Dan, that was just amazing. You're cities are always so good to look at ::).
Not a good city but a shot of some forthcoming industrial canal wharves for the SG_CAL canals. There will also be an inland container port for these canals in the next X-Ports update.

@nbvc: Aaah, oppie's kanal set - haven't seen or used it for a while but within an urban environment it still looks good. That ocean lock makes me rather nostalgic - with the help of marast I changed its width from 3 to 2 (just check the infos). That was my first useful work with the LE ... :satisfied:
@sepsis: comrade, your skills are just legendary!
OK, now something from me. Far away from being finished but I don't think anyone else made something in Sc4 before - at least I haven't seen something like that:

Enjoy

Some very nice looking canals on this page. Good job to those who spent the hours creating them
nice canal nbvc, though maybe there should be a fountain/inlet in the middle to re-add water, after all, the lock's let it all out :D
Joe
Bernard,
No I haven't seen something like this before in SC4. In real life they do exist, though. Beautiful work!
Did you really make a bridge with GLR passing over the canal? Or is it just eyecandy?
Looks like a bridge, isn't it? :)
Actually I tried to make a bridge here but the rainmod didn't work as he should - either the whole town below got flooded or no water stayed at all.
Since the depth of the canal is a little bit smaller than the usual NAM overpasses / ElRail I used the hole diggers to raise the supports (saw this quite some times at canals and canalized rivers for maintaining a sufficient height for passing ships) and placed a NAM overpass for the road and ElRail there.
The rest was a little bit of LE work ("With a little Peckpeck here and a little BuddyBud there..."). I love how it worked out.
Great one Bernhard, I really love the way the river is built. It's very realistic to make lock in a part and dam in an other part, and we don't see that often in MDs ! &apls

Pretty sure this isn't the right spot for this BUT.... looking for advice on how to go about making a regional canal system (CAN-AMed and not CAN-AMed)... doing one city is sorta easy, but I really don't know how one should look regionally... should it just be a straight line? Should it twist and turn? How does it end? Things like that, I don't know and is usally why I end up not using canals in the first place....

Nice canals Andrew!
Uzil, your industrial area looks really good too. I would suggest that you move your elevated road ramps closer to the canal though--then you won't have that unsightly empty green area below the ramp.
A little something from me:

I'm using the Peg brigantine water mod and trying to get a relatively smooth transition from canal to open water. Are the Cal canals working for me or should I be using something else?
Looks fine to me ;D What's the building on the left?
Thanks Jordan! I had used Peg canals before but I think I prefer the Cal canals.
That building on the left is the BSC-reworked version of Amsterdam Centraal Station available on the LEX (sorry no linkie, I forgot my LEX password again ::) )
here is my city with canal
