It gives me great pleasure to be the 100th poster and to move your MD from a fantastic month in OSITM to The Best Sellers section.  There is no surprise why you are doing so well.

Congrats from myself and The SC4D Staff!! &apls

End of OSITM month

My MD got great attention during November. OSITM is over for me (I hope not forever), but thanks to your comments Archipelago moved to the Best Sellers. Maybe somebody still remembers I started my MD with a want to be one of the Classics. We are halfway now! Only 398 more comments. Sound to much? Decrease it by commenting! I will try to give you more and more interesting updates, so keep commenting!

Update 20 - End of Test Region

Test Region is finished, it reached the target: I have the four W2W set ready to start build in a new region.
Here is a bonus for you, an animated image about the regional development

Great job on that little animation.  It's really neat to see how some people go about things.

Update 21 - Modding Time: Realistic night lighting of road networks

Two month ago, when I flied to Berlin, I saw both Budapest and Berlin at night from the plane. I immediately started comparing the picture to my sc4 cities. (I probably a bit addicted to this game  $%Grinno$% ). And I found the pictures are not similar at all. In a normal city the streetlights are very visible at night. In sc4 streetlights are mostly invisible, and buildings dominate the picture.

This is one of my current cities, with very average night view. (Gizmo's Day and Night mod v2, that's why so dark) This picture was already presented here in a previous update. It's not bad, but if I compare it to the reality, it's not good at all. I don't like it anymore.
BEFORE

But... I think it's possible to make a mod which can light up the city. This is what I currently have. (Based on SimFox Day and Night Mod and modded LRM v3.)
Bird view of the test city, click for full resolution (1920x1080), it looks better. The in game view is even much better, these jpg images are too noisy.

And some closeups

What do you think about this mod?
Is it good enough to upload somewhere?
Any recommendation how to make it better?

Fascinating work!  &apls

I really enjoy making nice night-lit scenes in my cities but had never thought of anything like this. I guess that's because I usually look at close zooms when I look at my cities at night. In real life you notice the pattern of lights around roadways more than anything else in a city though, especially outside of very dense areas.

I would definitely have interest in downloading something similar to this.

As for making the mod better the two things I would suggest are that the lights are much more yellow, almost orange, compared to almost all other nightlighting in the game, and that it seems maybe a little too bright. The diagonals look a bit "boxy" too but not sure what you could do about that.

Nice work and I look forward to seeing how this progresses

io_bg

Great work indeed! I have also always disliked the look of broader zooms at night. But you've made your pictures look fantastic! Although I'll have to agree with Noah that roadways stand about a bit too much because of their yellow colour. What about making it more white-ish?

TiFlo

Wow. Even though I agree about the lights being probably a bit too yellow, this is definitely an improvement. And a significant one.

rooker1

I for one love it and think it's a great idea.  If you can find a way to change the color, maybe you could upload different color variations to please different people.  I may decide to use a night modd if you do this. ;)

Now THAT looks cool  . Great work, kodlovag!

And about the yellow-orange lights: these lights give orange light in real life, since these lights are fitted with natrium light-tubes, which give a saturated orange light. The diagonal Avenue sections may need a T21 mod (so the lights are one tile further apart).

Impressive. The first time someone made me think of a DarkNite mod ...  %confuso

Love that Natrium-Bulb-Lights.

Take care!

Bernhard

A great improvement. I also think it is a bit to yellow. And maybe try to remove the dark gaps between the bright spots on bridge.

Ciuu96

Very nice work! &apls Diagonal avenues indeed look weird, but if T21 would fix that, the mod would be perfect! Also different color options would be nice, at least I would prefer more blueish light.
Has it really been almost 2 years?
Must return. :)

carlfatal

Yes, this mod shows very realistic nightlights , I definetively would use it if there is a chance to solve the problem with the diagonals. And I would prefere the yellow lights, cause where I live the most bigger streets show the same light. Maybe we need more than one version  ;D.

I think this is perfect for uploading as release one!
I like the yellow lights.

You also asked for suggestions on how to improve. Look at this picture of Paris by night. One of the things I like is that there are different colors of lights in the various streets. One way to achieve this is perhaps different colors per network type. (AVE-4 gets a different color than AVE-2 etc etc.)

xannepan

by the way... I think this mod eventually should become part of next releases of the NAM!!! Perhaps with configuration options too select the color of the lights per network type.
